I just took a few pictures of pineapples in bloom from my yard this morning. I've been out of town a lot lately, and it was a nice surprise to find these when I returned home! I hope you enjoy the pics.
Natal Queen Natal Queen Sugarloaf Sugarloaf and a couple of TC pineapples that are starting to grow a bit

Thanks guys, I have been waiting for them to fruit since last summers harvest. Dare I say, I almost enjoy pineapples more than most bananas that I've tried!

Nanaman, great varieties you have going. I have about a dozen varieties, such as red spanish, cheese pine, champakka, royal hawaiian (I think its a sugarloaf), pernambucco, jamaica sugar, MD2, but mostly, smooth cayenne. I'd be interested in trading slips, or if you have an interest in certain tropical fruit tree seeds I have. Let me know if you get extra slips you might have available for trade.

Gary, I would be interested in trading slips as soon as I get a few more! I'm also growing Cheesepine,Dacca,Rondon, and Sarawak but they are part of a project with another grower and still in TC stage. I'm curious about Jamaca Sugar,(fruitsize,taste,etc..).Any info. Would be great!!!

My Jamaica Sugar is actually still small from TC also, from the USDA. Where did you get your TC's? I ate a cheese pine last summer, it was the best pineapple I've tasted so far. If you get any Natal Queen or Sugarloaf slips, I'd be interested in one or two of them. Perhaps I'll get slips this year from ones which are right now flowering: Red spanish, MD2, Champakka, One which might be pernambucco, I need to look at my map to verify which one it is, and a tiny ornamental one. The 'Royal Hawaiian' I think I have a slip of, it produces a white fleshed, very sweet pineapple. I have around 150 plants, most are smooth cayennes.

Here's the few pineapple pics I have online, first is just a smooth cayenne with 7 crowns:
![]() My first pineapple bed from a couple years ago, now I grow them around most of my fruit trees, and am working them around a 42' blueberry bed: ![]() A pic from last summer, the small one is the cheese pine, others would be smooth cayenne, with I think one champacca. I've gotten them up to 6.5 lbs so far, most are over 5 lbs. ![]() My fruit photo album: http://www.dotphoto.com/MemViewAlbum.asp?AID=4037624 |

They like tropical-subtropical environments, Las Vegas probably lacks enough humidity for healthy growth.
