LOL trebor! Thanks for the laugh; unripe/green papaya is quite popular in a lot of cuisines though

I tried it in Spaghetti sauce.. two different times! Wasn't bad Wasn't good either. But I had read where in Thailand it was popular in some dishes. I like the tea made from the leaves. I took one good living leaf and allowed it to dry. Stuck it in my food processor. just copied other tea bag sized and amounts and it was pretty good stuff. Ive made it quite a few times..

When I was in Chiang Mai, Thailand I took a cooking course and one of the dishes I learned was a spicy green papaya salad. Was pretty good but too spicy for me, gf loved it.

I once worked with Asians --- Lao, Hmong, Vietnamese as well as Thai. At Xmas we had a party and green papaya salad was always on the table. Yes it had chillis in it. Tasty and the best thing on the table.

Can anyone comment on the taste and growing requirements" of "Red Lady" papaya compared to the Solo varieties "Sunset", "Sunset" or "X-77/ Waimanalo"?

papaya X-77
As to X77 that link has quite a bit of info plus two years of photos on the size and growth. X77 are sweet and smaller than other Papaya.. I like them! plus there are pictures of size comparison on that thread.
Im in south Florida. Where its nice and warm . But my Papaya take the cooler weather pretty darn good . water at least every other day and fertilize every 15 days ( compost, cow manure, NPK fert 9 3 8 ) Mineral supplement also Azomite 3 times a year.. Remember I have sand here so I need mineral supplements.
It is my opinion all Papaya grow very much the same And the taste of home grown is outstanding! seeds take 14 days to germinate .. Not always but rely on slow germination..

I had a chance last year to sample the x77 Waimanalo at the tasting table of my rare fruit club. Yellow flesh. It was the first pap, other than Red Lady, that I could enjoy without declaring ----"this tastes like barf!"

This year I panted the RL and the x77 seedlings. Can't wait for the result. Both taste good. X77 is better.

Excellent. Thank you very much for your input. I have germinated some Sunrise, Sunset and x-77 after the squirrels destroyed my plants last year. I was wondering if the Red Lady was better than those, but I will probably just concentrate on keeping the seedlings safe from new squirrel damage.

Glad to spark some green papaya discussion! It's grown a lot locally so I can loko more into using it in some dishes (love spice).

Sounds like your climate is pretty similar to mine which'd make sense since we're only a couple of miles apart. I read that sand was already high in minerals so I thought I only needed to add organic matter; what's the Azomite for? And I didn't know papaya germinate so quickly; I better get some seeds I got planted them

My soil is sand, there actually was a bean farm where my house sits. So no coral to speak of other than 4 inches where the farmer used it to make a parking pad for his equipment.
AZOMITEĀ® | Frequently Asked Questions | Facts | Science
That link is to azomite faq and it pretty much covers any and all questions you could ever ask. I use it because I get great results from applying it yearly about every 120 days . I might even add some from time to time extra but not to often. So I guess the answer to your question is I use Azomite to re-mineralize my sand/soil.. The difference for me is about 40% better. Yes I have actually raised plenty of Papaya before using it . once I put it on 4 trees and I was shocked at the difference.
At present I have 7 fruit bearing sized Papaya but that will soon change back to 10-12
