Smile Pineapples at BJ's

At BJ's today, I saw that they were selling Pineapple plants, with Pineapples growing at the top. I am curious, how come it is so hard and takes so long to get a Pineapple plant to fruit here, but they can get them to fruit enough to sell??? What's the deal? Is it the climate they grow them in, variety, or fertilizer?!? I was thouroughly confused.

Hiya Re: Pineapples at BJ's

Odd. What do they "fuel" them with? What kind of fertilizer?

ethylene, which stimulates bromeliads to flower.

some folks use apples put in the middle of plant and cover with plastic bag,
they produce same gases..

Cool. I never knew that. Obviously, LOL! What variety would you suppose these pineapples were?
