PhotoGreen-S (Iron supplement) and results
 

I've tried various iron supplements, including chelated iron, with little to poor success. Although my well water has high levels of iron and so does my soil, I've noted chlorosis in some citrus leaves which I suspected to be caused iron deficiency. The pH of my soil is about 7.2 which isn't all that high, but apparently still impacting iron availability in my soil. Last July I asked my chemical/fertilizer representatives (for my farm) who happens to be a distant cousin (our grandparents were cousins) and he's been in the business for about 35 years. He said for the last few years he's had customers using PhotoGreen-S (and PhotoGreen-F for foliar applications) with amazing results in some problem orchards. I decided to give it a try last July, treating one Gold Nugget mandarin citrus tree. I saw some fast results with a lot of new growth with normal (non-chlorotic) leaves.

After a few weeks I then treated a jaboticaba tree and a pitanga (Surinam cherry) and had some very amazing results with them. The jaboticaba had been in the ground for three years and was still 7' tall, the same as when I bought it ($125!). I had put on very few, if any, new leaves and was getting very sparse. Within seven days of being given 2-3 ounces of PhotoGreen-S (mixed with water), it had about twice as many new leaves on it. It also flowered and produced six fruit. The pitanga had been growing okay but had only given me one fruit in 2009. About seven days after being treated (same same method as jaboticaba), it had about 50 flowers on it and gave another 100 or more flowers over the following few weeks. The jaboticaba fruit did mature and were tasty but the pitanga fruits developed to late to mature properly and never got sweet.

I also treated some other young citrus and my miracle fruit plant and those showed good results.

This year I got things started earlier and treated my jaboticaba and pitanga a few weeks ago. The jaboticaba is now flowering (see below) and the pintanga is growing vigorously.

The PhotoGreen has been purchased from my supplier for about $55 for a 2.5 gallon jug and been well worth it, IMO. I have no financial interest in this whatsoever, though I have considered asking the company if maybe I could market it in a retail channel for them (probably something more suited to Richard's operation, though). I don't beleieve banans are big iron users and think the plants most likely to benefit from iron supplements are evergreen plants, though all plants require some iron.

I was telling Tony yesterday that I have about 100 redwood trees around the perimeter of my chestnut orchard. I planted most of them about 16 years ago. They range from about 30' to 40' in height, or maybe a little more. In one area I've got about a half dozen trees that have been doing poorly for several years and appeared to be dying. I applied 4 quarts/acre of PhotoGreen-S to my chestnut orchard about a month ago and also applied some to these problem redwood trees. I noticed the other day that there was considerable new growth on them so I examined them closer. The only green foliage on one of the trees is the new growth that's emerged in the past month. Looks promising so I plan to apply more in the next couple of days.
