That Palm P-P-P-Palm!
I've been stressing over what type of indoor growing palm I want to add to my list of plants lately, and I just really don't know what type to go with. Just curious if any of you have any palms in your homes and if so, what types and which are relatively easy to grow in a lower light situation (not dark, obvi but not as direct as being outside?) If you have any pics too, I would love to see what options I have ^_^. Any tips on palm care would be greatly appreciated too!
Danke! :sumbrero: |

Hi there
U can allways try with any typ of Chamaedoras. These are great indoor palms :). :woohoonaner: |
Re: That Palm P-P-P-Palm!
I actually used to have one. I feel like that is the world's easiest plant to keep alive. I might get another one, but I am looking for something a wee bit more dramatic. Something that will make people jealous ;)

True :ha:
Actually right now my favorites are Syagrus and Parajubaea but they are not true indoor plants. I just hope my seedlings will do fine. :woohoonaner: |
Re: That Palm P-P-P-Palm!
I love syagrus palms, why can't we just breed a houseplant variety :2141:

Re: That Palm P-P-P-Palm!
Haha, who knows maybe some of our experts in TC experiments menage to provide us dwarf Syagrus palm:ha::ha:

Re: That Palm P-P-P-Palm!
Try something like coco palm. It's not only difficult to keep alive inside, but keep alive in milder climate generally.
It's also the second most beautiful palm in the world and holy grail of almost any palm enthusiast. |

Haha, sure I'll just contact my local green thumb deity and cross my fingers! :P

Jack - just to wind you up - the coconuts we threw into the palm hedge after the dogs lost interest in playing with them have sprouted! A problem as they can't stay there!

Re: That Palm P-P-P-Palm!
A small palm would be the most trouble free. Chamaedoreas for the most part can be good house plants. I have seedlings of C. tepijilote, C. costaricana, and C. klotskiana. I need to get rid of some of them before winter. Palms As House Plants* Culture of Palm Houseplants* The Best Palms for Indoor Plants

Wow Isaac and everybody thank you so much. Excellent information, and you even have a grower. Although I'll have to wait to have 75.00 to spend on a myriad of plants to get them shipped to me, I'm sure from the looks of their plants, it would be well worth the money! That is seriously a cool looking palm!

Re: That Palm P-P-P-Palm!
Oh yea. Forgot about the $75 minimum order.

That is Trachycarpus fortunei (windmill palm). They look much nicer when grown in shade.
