Today, I bought it at Home Depot for $12.98.



The terminal buds of all the plants being sold were cut off. Maybe, that encourages development of pitchers. I guess I will have to wait for lateral buds to grow.

In the 60s and 70s, Nepenthes were almost impossible to buy in the USA. I saw a few plants at Chicago's Garfield Park Conservatory, which, at the time, was the largest municipally owned greenhouse in the World. Circa 1978, I went to many conservatories in Europe. Every one of them had a special room equipped with water foggers for hanging Nepenthes.

Update:

I repotted and moved it outdoors for the summer:



It is doing well despite full sunlight and low humidity:



And, yes, it is catching bugs.

I discovered that, if I completely fill the pitchers with a hydroponic fertilizer solution, 6 g./gal., the pitchers will absorb it, until about half full, within 3 days. Apparently, the pitchers absorb water as efficiently as roots.

Elsewhere, I discussed the feasibility of foliar feeding calcium and, theoretically, it is not feasible because calcium doesn't travel down the phloem. Maybe, the nepenthes pitcher plant is an exception because it could have evolved to absorb the digested bones of small vertebrates such as tree frogs.
