I don't think what I said above to be far off the mark.

Just my thoughts ... I haven't done this. My lemons trees are in the ground and about 4 ft tall now & 4 years old. They had some fruit last year and they are loaded this year. They dropped their fruit the first 2 years after forming.
Hey! Sorry I’m just getting back to you! Yes I do plan on it being a container plant! I’d love to keep it in the ground but I’d like for it to live through the winter! Okay so thank God I have some bigger pots in the garage! Will do! Thanks so much for the wonderfully detailed information about how to care for this plant for the next 2 years! I am very impressed about your knowledge of Orange tree care! Sorry if I already said that in another post of mine!

Wow! Your lemon trees are loaded with fruit this year! Congratulations! Lucky dog! Very nice!

Aww, you’re very sweet! Thanks as always for your help! I truly appreciate it!

Once it comes out of shock, get it out that peat moss. That stuff is just pure evil. I would also suggest a pH meter to test the soil you do put it in, to make sure it's at the optimum pH for your tree(s). You can get one at the Homie Despot that doesn't take batteries pretty cheap. You have Menard's up there, right? They should have them too. In containers, it's really easy to change your pH. I had a dawn redwood one time that was growing in 3.8. Vinegar is 3.5, so it was pretty acidic. Luckily the dawn could take it, but it would have killed just about everything else though. It was a damn fine experiment however! Even I didn't know they could take that low of a number and be okay. It wasn't thriving, mind you, but it wasn't languishing either. I have no idea how in the hell they went extinct, as hardy as they are.

When it blooms, there are sometimes as many as 20 blooms in each clump. I wait until the fruit begins to form, and pinch off all but about 3 or 4 of them. The branch would not be able to handle the weight of more than that.

Hey! Thanks for the suggestions! Yes I’ll go and get a ph meter! I’ve been meaning to buy one before just never did yet! I can’t believe that your Dawn redwood was growing in that acidic of conditions! Wow I’m shocked! Pretty neat experiment! Thanks so much for helping me out and being so kind to reply!

By the way I wanted to mention that I didn’t do a thing to that tree! I didn’t move into a bigger container. I didn’t use different soil other than the peat moss it’s been in all along! The tree is not only a survivor but also tough to take just about any kind of abuse! Yeah I was just about to throw it away after talking to you guys before! Good thing I didn’t! Am I right or what!

20 blooms in each clump? Wow that’s incredible! Yeah I can see what you mean that a branch couldn’t hold the weight of that many oranges growing! I’m genuinely impressed! Congratulations! Does everybody get that many oranges growing on one tree? Just being curious!

Umm, don't you have to pollinate them? I know on peppers and tomatoes and such, if they don't get pollinated, the flowers just fall off.

YW.

Yeah, anyone who is familiar with plants and pH's, is usually shocked to hear it was growing. A friend of mine who went to forestry school and I, went to see Dante's Peak. When Pierce Brosnan took a sample of the lake water and it registered 1, we both said at the same time, "Holy s**t!" We were the only people in the entire theater who understood the significance, or what it even meant. Battery acid.

Yeah I think you’re right about having to pollinate orange trees! Do you have to have 2 orange trees to do that? Can bugs like bees do it for you? Hopefully mine won’t fall off, but it’s aright if they do! No biggie!

Those lakes do exist, some with pH so low it's below zero. I didn't know that was even possible until a few years back. I mean, you're talking like the stuff from Alien. If you ever saw the movie, that is why the aluminum canoe turned into swiss cheese, and Grandma died from shock after she jumped in, in a panic. But we weren't even thinking. We just exclaimed that phrase simultaneously, and like half of the otherwise quiet theater turned to look at us, because they had no idea what it meant.

You can pollinate the flowers manually, with a Q-tip, but the bees will do it as well, once they go outside. If you get more, just do it yourself to get a jump on the season. IDK if oranges have male and female flowers or not. but if they don't, like peppers, just gently squeeze them to match the pollen. If they do, use the Q-tip to take pollen from one flower to another, like you would with cucumbers.
