On page 11 of the June 2014 issue of The Fruit Gardener is a blurb about Maypop (Passiflora incarnata), a passion fruit species hardy in USDA zones 5-9. With a little research you might find some high-end cultivars available from nurseries in the eastern half of the U.S.

Passiflora edulis is the main ingredient in the product "Hawaiian Punch" although with a lot of sugar added. The cultivar Fredericks is widely available and superior to the generic species. It is hardy in 9b.

My vines have grown like gangbusters and are up over the top of the wired enclosure. Not tons of blooms, but some both the red and the purple. Really pretty!

Passiflora Incarnata grows wild in the ditch in front of my house, looking at these makes me want to go get a cutting of one and put it in a pot on the front porch.
