Sunfish,

What's the parentage like? And can you tell me more about future plans in this direction?

Thanks,

The parentage on the ones of interest,because they're edible. P.edulis x P.incarnata and P.edulis x P.alata. No special plans it's just something I enjoy.

Sunfish,

So... do you sow seed of your hybrids to look for segregates with nice qualities? Do you get enough fertility in the hybrids to do this?

shannon that's kind of what I do but I just grow out all the plants.Next year I will start being more selective with the seedlings and only keep the more promising ones. As far as fertility I have a ridiculous amount of viable seed.

Thanks for this... I'm trying to do edulis hybrids with such oddities as P. serrato-digitata and such; adding full tropical tolerance plus self-compatibility for easier acceptance by smallholder peasant farmers.

And, BTW, your approach is just what I'm also doing with bananas!!!

Sunfish,

I'm trying to breed in self compatibility into some large fruited edulis varieties that I got from Fla.

They're not selfers. I've crossed with some local strains that are very prolific medium fruited long-lived selfers.

Can you advise how I should proceed?

Thanks,

shannon
