I begin to fertilize my lemon, well all of my citrus, in mid Feb and continue to feed them monthly through September. I'm on the Gulf coast of Alabama. From the way you word your question it sounds like you're going to stop fertilizing once you see fruit. Don't stop then but continue until about September.
