![]() Okay, I just got my first Banana Tree, a Super Dwarf Cavendish and I've only had it a few days but I'm so excited about it that I bought an Elite Gold Pineapple Plant too.
![]() I'm trying to grow houseplants that will eventually feed us and so I was looking at other plants and didn't realize I could grow pineapples indoors too, so I'm excited about it all!!! |

![]() Hi leasmom, I bought one about this time last year from ebay as well ( along with a sugarloaf and smooth cayenne) . One bit of good advice is that they like to be a bit on the dry side.. especially if they're next to your bananas that will consume a lot more water. Good luck with it.

![]() Yeah I wanted to get the Smooth Cayenne one too. I ordered some Mini Orange seeds and some Columnar Apple seeds too. But the bananas, they need more water than the rest, is that what you're saying? I'm new to it all and kind of jumping in head first...

![]() Way to go jumping in head first like that. Best way to learn for sure. I think to keep the bananas growing best keep them as warm and brightly lit as possible. Their water consumption depends largely on the temperature. I water during winter after the top 2" of soil gets dry and then water thoroughly. Let the pineapple dry out a bit more before watering. You'll learn best from getting the "feel" of it from experience.

![]() I have no idea what you might get at the organic place, but I get mine from Kroger. I think mine are Delmonte Gold, or something like that. Just twist the stem off and tear the first few leaves off and put in water to root. Change the water everday and eventually you will get some good roots coming off. Plant and enjoy.

![]() Many of the supermarkets, around here, will core pineapples for customers. Look for when they have them on sale (which means they'll sell lots of them) and ask the produce manager if you can have some tops. I've gotten a whole bag full of them like this, and they're free!

![]() It's a version of an extra sweet Cayenne, not sure which one. Chiquita, Del Monte, and Dole, all develope their own planting stock. Good luck with your plant!

![]() I've rooted them in just a glass of water. (I found it a good idea to change the water every couple of days) Also with some, especially the "Gold" varieties, when you peel the small lower leaves off, many times you will find small roots (up to about ¾ inch) already there. In that case, all you have to do is poke a hole in a pot and stick it in.
I've also grown them from seed. |

![]() I have a Sugarloaf which I've had for about two years (I think) and had noticed it was getting pretty big lately. I checked it out closer today (not easy, since it's in my crowded greenhouse) and it's got fruit!
