Default Jade Vine flower

My 3 year old, container grown Jade Vine is going to flower. I didn't even find the bloom until I was moving the pot to another location and discovered it growing out of old growth very low on the vine with most of the bloom sitting in the soil.

After several weeks of abnormally cool temperatures for my area, my jade vine flower has started to grow again. I'm hoping that in the next week, I will see a fully opened flower. The color is unmistakable though.

I had 6 flowers open overnight and there are dozens about to open. It should be a real show stopper in another week.

Here in Hawaii I have one plant that in a year took over a 30 foot section of chain link fence. I make and sell leis from them.

This is the first time mine has flowered. How long can I expect the flowers to last? Since I'm container growing this plant, I would't expect to have more than one or two racemes each bloom cycle but it's still been fun to watch this one develop.

I think from the time they open maybe a week until they're bloomed out and fall off. It's amazing that you're getting any! Especially considering that they are native to the Phillipines, which is much more tropical than even Hawaii. They are pretty incredible, aren't they? The most frequent question I get is if they are the natural color or dyed. The first time I saw the plant I had to get one.

Several people who are friends of mine in Florida that I've traded plants with over the years have told me the same thing about getting this to flower. I'm growing it is a 20 gallon pot and I wheel it into my greenhouse to overwinter along with a numerous heliconia, tender gingers, orchids, etc. I park the pot next to a wooden fence and let it grow for the summer, cut it loose in the fall, and so forth. It's never missed a beat.

I'm waiting for mine to come back from the last freak chill, lost all it's leaves, but the stem is still green so I am waiting for new leaves and or shoots from the bottom.
I caught the one in Miami actually flowering last year in Fairchild tropical gardens...Grrr
I was so green with envy but theres was huge growing up and threw the pergola, it was a beauty...I'm colder here but I still have hope for flowers on day

Mine is in a pot and goes in a heated greenhouse in winter. I was actually shocked when mine flowered. I knew it was old enough and large enough but I had not read of many people flowering it in a container. I feel very fortunate.

Mine is planted outside, but I created an arbour that during the winter I can cover also has heating and it becomes a greenhouse all it's own. I push all kinds of stuff in this tube of sorts with the heating. All was fine no more chills we were well into Spring so I took the cover off, 3 days later from the 75-80ish to...boom in the 50's, that was enough to shock it...it's gonna be OK, the scratch test says so, patience is all I need.
I'm stoked for you though, this year my Tecomanthe bloomed, glad no one was around to see me do my version of the Irish jig...LOL
Maybe next year it won't bloom so close to the ground, I'll have enough old growth that it will bloom higher next year, so I'm not literally having my head to the ground trying to take pics of it 1/2 upside down.
So with your blooms I have hope at least to have flowers one fine day...thanks for sharing!!!
