Lilith - this is one of my all-time favourites and yours looks fabulous. It is quite hard to find so I carry a picture with me whenever I go plant hunting - the only place I have seen it growing, but not looking as good as yours, is in the greenhouses at Kew Gardens in London. Have you had it long - it looks a big plant and is absolutely gorgeous.

Jarred,
it would be an easy trade since you are also in Florida, no major Ag laws to get in the way. What do you have to trade? Maybe you should email me privately. I have two rooted sections at the present time, both are spoken for I believe (I am waiting to hear back from a gentleman who has a Hat Plant tree he wants to trade me) but I have a third section that is rooted and has to be separated from the main vine. |

It looks like your growing your vine in a Greenhouse. Mine started to bloom in January and now still has 36 scapes so I will have flowers for all of March, Three months, thats not bad (2 months is normal, Ahh the warming). In April I will put some cuttings in the mister. Cuttings bloom much faster then seedlings. Seedlings are sometimes poor bloomers. I will put some pictures in my March page. In the mean time here is a picture from January: http://groups.msn.com/tropicalgarden...o&PhotoID=5340

Yes, mine has been established in the greenhouse for 3 years. The trunks on it are almost the size of my wrist now. It was a trade from someone in South FL, it was an already established plant. I have never seen a source for seeds.
I have to prune it frequently to keep it in check, I think that is why I have so many racemes this year. After it finishes blooming I will prune it back again. I have the Jade in the front right and middle of the greenhouse, and Thunbergia coccinea planted with Thunbergia mysorensis in the back right, with a Rangoon creeper and Solandra maxima in the back left. The canopy from these provides all of my shade in the greenhouse. There is a Pyrostegia venusta in the extreme front center but it gets severely pruned in Jan-Feb right after it blooms. Takes ita ll season to grow back out, otherwise it would absolutely take over. I have been able to root so many sections of my Jade Vine that I have just about traded with anyone who has had a good trade, not many people can grow it (don't have either the right natural or artificial conditions). I have 2 that are traded now, mailing this week, and another ready to cut off of the mother. If anyone has a trade, this is the time to approach me, as I am going to advertize on Gardenweb and a couple other places, and if there are no takers, I am going to try the sillyness of actually planting a vine outdoors here to see what happens! And its a huge vine, the cutting itself is already blooming! |
