Indian Mangoes
Does anyone know if Indian mango varieties do well in Southern California? I'm looking into an Indian variety called Mallika. It's highly rated and it would fit well in my yard since it's small. I live in the foothills. If not, I can find a Philippine alternative.

Re: Indian Mangoes
I am NOT an expert in S CA mango growing, but I do know of one that grows well, at least out in the hot valleys. Keitt. Killer - giant, green as a bell pepper, yet ripe, and one of the best flavors and textures. They get ripe in Sept and Oct and you may be able to find one if you know the right stores.
Please tell us about the Indian variety Malika. |

I've heard of this Keitt variety too. They grow them commercially in Coachella Valley. It would probably great for my yard, although we do get Santa Ana winds sometimes in the fall. Mallika is a very good Indian variety that is supposed to have a honey flavor. Here's a link:
Pine Island Nursery - Mango Variety Viewer - Mallika I'm especially looking for dwarf mango varieties because I'm working with limited space. |

Re: Indian Mangoes
Good. I just hope they can tolerate the humidity in the winter...But otherwise, sounds great! It seems to be the perfect variety for me--Great production, small size, great taste, etc. I'll double check with the people at Pine Island Nursery just in case. Can't wait till next season! :D
