I Need Proper Care Instructions For Jade Vine.. Thanks

I recently purchased 4 jade vines, and need advice, on the proper care for growing.

I live on the west side of Maui

Thanks

While in a pot don't let it get dry and when you put it in the ground keep it moist for the first year. That's what I did.
This picture is from my jade vine.

They are gorgeous plants! I also like the Flame vine, Mucuna bennettii. Both are stunners!!! They just won't grow here. I had one shipped to me from Florida. The green leaves started falling off from day one. It died about 2 weeks later. They are reportedly not good travelers.

I had a Mucuna bennettii for 4 years and it grew very well. Then I had to paint the wall behind the vine. After I trimmed the vine some of the large stems dribbled water until it was dead. Someone in Ft.Lauderdale bloomed one in two years. Around Miami the flame vine is Pyrostegia venusta or less likely Senecio confusus.

Once I can get a real greenhouse, I will definitely try them again. There are so many tropicals that I want, I will need an industrial sized greenhouse.:ha:

Here's a photo of mine blooming in the greenhouse. It's a monster. Needs constant trimming back, Its about 7-8 years old and has a huge trunk. It didn't bloom until it was about 4-5 years old. They like water, and they like space for their roots. They develop a shallow running root system, and like to spread out. That is why they eventually do poorly in containers. I have found and traced back roots up to 7-8 feet away from the trunk. They also like to be fed, a LOT. Pruning does not in any way hurt this vine, if it did mine would have died a long time ago. I prune it almost weekly in the summer because it really does grow that fast. If I didn't it would engulf everything in its path.

Haha - but the crunch is that I can't get the plants here that you have! I walk around the viveros with a handfull of pictures from my wish list - mostly to no avail! But I enjoy what I get and grows here well - as someone said to me - you can't have everything you want, where would you put it all? So true!!
