How bad did mango seller screw me?
I am old enough to have a pretty good sense of right and wrong but would like some other opinions from people that have experience in produce sales before I send my next email.
I ordered 2- 15lb boxes of mangos from a farmer on Pine Island. These are not cheap mangos and it is a rare treat for an old man on a fixed income. I requested they be sent 2 weeks apart. The first one arrived and I instantly knew before opening it that there was not 15lb in there, only 9lb. The second box is due this Friday. I sent an email and the response was that the Haydens were a little small and they could not fit 15lb in their flat rate box. That was a lie because there was a lot of room in the box (mangos rolling around inside before opening) and they had also sent some small Cambodiana mangoes that could have filled it much more. The Cambodianas are really delicious and some were already ripe on arrival. The next problem is all the smaller Haydens have developed nasty anthracnose while ripening and are barely edible. They advertise no chemical sprays at all. When the Valencia Pride are ready to ship they can easily get 15lb in one box as they did last year, those things are huge. I don't want 20lb at one time with the next shipment, they ripen all at once and I have to give some away. Would appreciate any opinions good or bad and if any banana growers in Florida have some extra mangos or special bananas they would like to sell please PM me. Thanks for your help Larry |

If you paid with PayPal or a major credit card then contact PayPal or the card company and insist on a full refund. This should get the farmer's attention because they can't afford to lose a payment vehicle.

Re: How bad did mango seller screw me?
I guess I'm not picky enough about varieties because I just buy locally--sometimes the little yellow/gold ones are available but generally just standard ones like Kents, etc. So unless this farmer was offering the moon, generic mangoes are 4/$1 at Food City in Mesa this week. There is a limit of 8 which means you have to go more than once, take a friend with you or hit up another store or 2 to get 15 lbs very cheap. Want something more exotic? You have some Asian markets in your area that might have the more unusual mangoes and other fruit if that's what you desire.
Other than seeds and plants, I order hardly anything that must be shipped unless absolutely necessary. I want to hold, smell and inspect so I know it's what I want before opening my wallet which is why I purchase locally and always did even when living in NC, MD, OH, etc. |

Yeah but they're not that great. Blackened inside with a funky taste.
But thanks for the info. |
