Neat! I wish I still had some of mine blooming. Oh well, guess I can be thankful - we haven't had a hard freze yet, but getting close.

Still blooming even in this cold. Not sure how the bloom will look tomorrow though. There are about 8 buds just about ready to pop. This painted lady has been one continuous bloomer for me.......and Cheryl too!

Not to ignore your interesting question, but I have no idea. Anyone?

Cold Re: A Hibiscus A Day....

It seems the tropical kind is sterile as I have never seen seeds in them, but was curious if you could take the pollen from it and fertilize a rose of sharon to produce something of interest?

Theoretically, yes. It would depend on your tropical hibiscus though - many of the cultivars are sterile. If you could get your hands on honest-to-susan H. rosa-sinensis that wasn't a cultivar, it would be more likely that you'd get seeds in a cross.

I don't know how he does it, what he polinates, etc., but all the ones that I have been posting were bred by Curt Sinclair. He must have some plants that are not sterile/he must get seeds sometimes.

Here's another one. This one's called 'Braveheart'.

Just a generic red hibiscus... but I got a picture of the month, on another garden forum, for this one.
