Heliconia Psittacorum
OK who here has tried growing a Heliconia psittacorum?
I have been thinking of getting one of these guys, but figured I would see how easy these are to winter indoors for everyone. I have a room with a south facing window, that I overwintered bananas in last winter, and figured this would be a good spot. What sort of humidity levels do these guys need minimum? I do have some insecticidal soap for the spidermite when the come too. Thank for the input, |

Re: Heliconia Psittacorum
Will they bloom in one season?
I thought heliconia only bloomed on second year growth? Oh and does anyone recommend a good source, and/or website, book, whatever with good information? |
Re: Heliconia Psittacorum
BGreen,
I got this clump last summer and overwintered it inside in a growing state with no problem. It was near a set of glass doors facing south. I would think added humidity would be of benenfit, but I did not add any to my den. I am not willing to divide mine right now, with it blooming, but if you do not get one by spring, let me know and I will be happy to divide you out a piece to try... Randy |
