![]() Hi all!
Well, I don't expect this to become the new pineapple diaries thread, but I wanted to ask a few questions and get some experience on growing pineapples from seed. Anyway, I harvested 7-8 seeds from the pineapple I accidentally butchered in the pineapple diaries thread. I have kept them in a plastic bag in my desk drawer and have not planted them yet. I just have a few questions. 1) Under grow lights and a heat mat, how long will they take to sprout? 2) Will they grow true to species (be a copy of the mother plant) 3) How long will it take for the plants to mature? 4) How fast do the plants grow? I would also really appreciate it if we started a discussion here like on the pineapple diaries, sharing experiences, tips and pics. I am going to keep this post informal, instead of with a journal and everything like on the pineapple diaries thread. Thanks, Kbud ![]()

![]() K - I have three potted pineapple plants from tops of store bought fruit. The largest finally sprouted a baby after 2+ years . I'm not much for keeping notes but will take a photo later. would love to know more about growing from seed.

![]() 2) I would think they wouldn't. If you want true to the mother plant, plant the top or another sucker. Where I live, a lot of people grow white pineapple, aka Sugarloaf, and yellow ones. I've been told that if you mix varieties in the same area, which I do, you get seeds because they may have been cross pollinated. Otherwise they are seedless. Not all of mine get seeds, but when they do, I'm guessing the seeds are from 2 varieties, and not true to type. Could get some interesting hybrids maybe?
