Re: Growing Flowers Indoors...

Great pics! I always love seeing them! My thanksgiving cactus bloomed outside in the early summer 2 years ago because we had such a cool June. They were a more than welcome sight because I really love there flowers! They are so unique!
You have a ton blooming inside! I wish I had that many plants in bloom inside. This winter was my best for flowers so far. I had my thanksgiving cactus, african violet, plumeria (surprisingly), nun orchid, bougainvillea, begonia, ti plants, peace lilies, orchid and hibiscus blooming. Usually I dont have near that much! Did you take any plants outside by you yet? Most of my plants are outside now, except for the really heat loving ones.
Thanks for sharing!

Re: Growing Flowers Indoors...

Well I've got a few pepper plants on my mom's balcony outside and a geranium, but that's about all for now. Our real nice weather likely won't be here until mid-May, which is normal for us. Because my plants are grown indoors from seed, they're not as cold-hardy as some of the nursery plants are...so I gotta wait until it's really warm before I put them outside.

Oh I always have to have something blooming inside, no matter what time of year. I once had an indoor Plumeria cutting that bloomed for me indoors too. The scent was so lovely.

A quick shot but here's the bloom I'm enjoying this evening...

Gosh I love geraniums. :D Do you know they'll bloom continually, non-stop, all year round, indoors?!

Geraniums are great indoors! I dug one of mine up last year and left it on the surface of the soil in a pot. It had no roots and only the newest leaves, but it still made a bloom head! I was very impressed with its will to do so well!

I'm not surprised, Alex. ;)

Marigolds, Petunias, and Impatiens are really nice indoors too.

I love the top two flowers...no...I love them all but not so much the Geraniums, not had any for years.

Gimmie a red rose any day, beautiful.

That Delphinium is going to be lovely, its the one in the pot belonging to Kevin. Let us see that when it flowers please.

That Thanksgiving cactus is awesome Sherry!!

What a beautiful pot of violas! We call the small ones 'violas' and the large ones, 'pansies'. :)

Some mums are perennial, Kevin...so they'll come back every year. I love them indoors or out.

Thanks for the information Orinoko and Hollyberry Lady! =D

I didnt know a rose can bloom inside and those look really cool.

That basket looks really cool too. Everybody calls them pansies here and we have the yellow and brown ones too! Thats one of my favorite flowers.

I will shoot pictures of my Delphinium plant when it makes flowers and post them! =D

Oh yes Kevin...roses can easily bloom inside. You should pick yourself up one of those mini-rose bushes in a pot and you can bring it inside to bloom throughout winter. ;)

Looking forward to your Delphinium shots soon...

Here's my blooming Celosia today...

Even the leaves are purplish...

This is a beautiful smelling petunia that's bi-colored. It just started blooming for me a few days ago...

A lot of people don't know it but petunias are a favorite of hummingbirds. When they're grown in a hanging basket, hummers are especially drawn to them.

Also too, petunias release their fragrance in the evening and at night...never in the daytime when the sun is on them. Some of the large grandiflora types, although beautiful, have sacrificed their scent for bigger & more spectacular blooms...but I prefer the scented types. There's nothing like them. The one I have now is very sweet smelling and I keep it in an open window so the sweet scent wafts all night. :D

Get yourslef some petunias! They grow incredibly inside as well! :goteam:

I did not know that I was looking at some yesterday too Almost bought them Maybe I will now I always get things for my hummer buddys did I tell you guys they even come up to me right in front of my face like there telling me thank you. LOL its so cool. There was some people over looking at the garden the other day and the hummers came they could not beleve it when they came up to me they were amazed.

The Hollyberry Lady 07-03-2011 02:11 PM

Re: Growing Flowers Indoors...

I've had them come up close to my face outside too, Greg. They even come up to my windows and flutter in front of them for awhile, wondering why they can't get at the flowers. :(

This is actually a normal thing for them to do, (come up close to you), and another thing a lot of people don't know is that hummers are very bold creatures and they are not one bit shy. This is why they come so close whereas other birds wouldn't be caught dead anywhere near your reach. Hummers are awesome and they'll love your petunias if they're in a hanging basket but not in the garden near the ground.

Re: Growing Flowers Indoors...

I found out some very interesting information about Gerbera Daisies...

Gerbera Daisies (Gerbera Jamesonii) can in fact be grown as perennials indoors, flowering all year long. Caring for them as a houseplant not only livens up your home but purifies your indoor air of toxins. They are listed in the top 12 “Green” air cleaners by NASA. People are catching onto this fact, but they haven’t quite figured out how to grow them and care for them.

Isn't that so cool about NASA rating them as one of the top 12 air cleaning plants?! How amazing is that?! I love them even more now!
