Grape Vines!

Hello Again! Im calling on all you F.I.N.E. people again to give me some helpful tips! I just posted 7 new pics of my Grapevines this will be their 3rd year of growth in Illinois! My question is i have NEVER pruned them and they Do put out a few pounds of Grapes, as you can see in pics i have them all growing along side of my car-port up some chicken wire and then back underneath the carport roof (which ill be replacing with some GreenHouse clear roofing for more direct light and heat) right now i have 16 Agrosun 48 in bulbs over them (in the growing season)! OK BACK TOO MY QUESTION-SHOULD I PRUNE THEM? IF YES, WHEN/ HOW SHORT/ WILL I STILL HAVE GRAPES THIS YEAR? The Vines are 4 foot up the outside of the car-port and another 3 foot under roof for a total of about 7 foot! CAN I EXPECT GRAPES ALL THE WAY TOO THE TOP OF THE VINES GROWING LIKE THIS? Once again THANKS TOO ALL!
ROBBY
P.S. The Grapes you see on them are just Party Lights!

Hi Robby
Have to say that this is the best way to grow nothing. U have to prune them if u wanna grape on them. Cut them down on 2-3 streams and each on most 3 pups. We here prune them in January. They will grow with new shoths easy and cover all car port.

Robby, there are quite a few sites that offer instruction on various methods of pruning. What type of grapes do you have?
What Ante is saying is correct. You have to leave only 2-3 shoots per cane in order to get fruit. Most vineyard in IL use a simple one or 2 strand trellis to train the vines in an upright habit. They then prune and train the canes along the trellis. You will need to be able to identify 1 year vs 2 year-old growth. You will only get shoots from one year old canes. There is a IL Grape Growers Group on Yahoo as well as The Northern Ill Wine Growers Association.
The time to prune is now, before bud-swell.
