Throught the banans in the ground..the roots like to grow laterally and need fertile well drained soil....there will always be pups to take with you....

Re: Ginger and Bananas

I understand the pups But what my worry is is that the ginger may wrap around the Banana and kill it . and may take up all the goods out of the ground .Tammy

OH man that is horrible for your Bananas . Why did your Neighbor have his Pvc pipe on your property ?

You could of sold the plants to me pouts ..

OK ill do it them ill dig the holes Now and once i get time after storage ill do it next yr . right now the ground is so soft i could use a table spoon to go threw that sand so i might Dig holes and fill with real rabbit manure and let it sit .

One problem now i found out i have an underground river here .
so Sandpipe shhh they say i cant use the one but im an outlaw LOL Tammy

I'm trying to figure out how tulips fit in with all those tropicals. We can grow a tulip here in Florida for, oh, maybe 5 minutes in February. Then its too hot and they keel over.

I don't think your gingers being planted near your bananas will have any negative effect on either plant. I plant gingers, bromeliads, different aroids, herbs like basil, fennel and mint and all sorts of other plants around the bases of my bananas and it is never an issue.

Are you thinking of standard white-blooming or red-blooming Zingibers? Because if you want something really unique, check out Shell Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet) - edible and very nifty flowers.
