I got some Elephant Ear plants growing in the sun and their leaves seemed burnt. My question is should I provide them with shade or have I burnt them with to much fertilizer?

What kind they are? They all like shade,,,,But I seen some of them growing really well on full sun.

I think they are Colocasia esculenta. But these don't really get much shade till late in the evening. I recently increased my watering of them. Do you think this will help?

Watering more will not fix the damage. Once a plant is damaged it can't be fixed. But you can minimize it getting damaged more.

What kind of fertilizer did you use? You need time release. You can use too much fert but it would need to be a lot. You also want to introduce them to sun slowly since it's been in the shade (or so it seems). It's easy to just move a plant into the shade. It takes forever to get a plant to adjust to the sun.

Actually they overwintered there. I didn't recently move them. I used some organic fertilizer, but applied liberally so that may have done it.

I have one that came up in my garden as a volunteer. It receives full sun all day. By the end of the season it was six foot tall. Never had any burn. This variety is the same as the ones I have that live in full shade and get at least that big maybe bigger.

Thanks, okay maybe I overdid the fertilizer. A good drenching of water should do the trick.

They could just be dry. Mine do great in full sun but really love water and humidity. If the air is extremely dry they can show it in their leaves. If it is really hot and dry almost no amount of water in the soil can make up for the dry air and they will get a bit crunchy.

Yeah, maybe to dry. Last year I dumped so old peat moss based potting soil around there. If that stuff doesn't get watered it dries out very quickly. Maybe I'll gently dig around there and remove what I can and replace with some compost and mulch.
