Dragon fruit in a pot, what do you think of this setup?

I read about it on another website. Any opinions? What I'd like to find out is the minimum depth of container that can support productive growth for DF.
Thanks,

I think its neat concept if they don't get to top heavy. Winds could play havoc with something that nice. Bet they screw the center support to the bottom of the pot/tub. :^)

Wind is a concern in my area. However, I don't think you saw all the photos in that thread, did you? The center PVC tower is retained inside the pot by rebars that go through the PVC pipe and the sides of the pot.

I would use "green garden tape" to tie plants to the supports, otherwise those pots are an excellent way to go. Since the Hylocereus obtain moisture from both the ground and air, a 12-gallon pot is sufficient for most plants.

Do you grow any DF Richard? Any recommendation for the potting soil? In that thread, the grower Bvincent uses a variety of potting soil and mixes in chicken manure.

Thanks,

All my DF are in 15gal pots. To keep the pots from blowing over drive a couple rebar through the pot into the ground. You can leave them long enough so you can pull them out if you need to move the pot.

That's it? What's the perlite composition of your final mix, 1/4 perlite and 3/4 peat, or?

That sounds about right. I also put a couple inches of lava rock on the bottom.

Home Depot or Lowe's have lava rocks. You can use beach gravel, but it will be very heavy if you need to move the pots around.
