Have been growing many and getting fruit. Have no idea what kind, just from twisting off the tops. I bought some others a few years ago but, they got mixed in with the others and am not sure what is which. They take a while in zone 6. Some are big and have leaves that are saw like and some smooth, more are small and pup like crazy. Fun and easy! Hope you recover! maybe you could give some distinguishing characteristics for identifying so i could guess what i have. Thanks

Hi when it come's to pineapple plants there are tons of Varieties out there it would be hard at Identifying them... the USDA has 153 known varieties listed on there website you should check it out they have names of each plant and photo of the fruit

https://npgsweb.ars-grin.gov/gringlo...3336;:siteid=6

Unless you can remember what the brand of pineapple you bought at time and its name would make it more easy to find out what the store bought pineapple was... Most pineapples you get at the store are smooth cayenne or MD2 pineapples

and than some of the pineapple plants i grow some of them are rare and hard to come by Unless you got them from the USDA people use to be able to get them from the USDA but they don't offer that anymore. but some people in the past got there hands on alot of pineapple plant varieties from the USDA were lucky to get them

i have a friend who was one of the lucky ones to get them from the USDA in the past he had around 30 or more varieties but over time he got rid of a-lot of them and only kept the one's he liked best and that were worth keeping to grow

Thanks Evildeadguy81,
Hope your friend realizes what he has and how hard it would be to replace. I am sure many here would love to help keep alive and procreating any others he gets tired of tending.
Merry christmass

I have a really nice variegated variety. It is spinney as can be, but the fruit are great tasting. Very low acid with pink scales. White flesh.
They are suppose to just be ornamentals with sub par fruit, but that is far from the case.
I had dozens of them in a patch, but pigs came through and ate them like candy last year.
I only have 3 plants left that I'm trying to spread in my yard again
