Deformed/Mutant Carrot
1 Attachment(s)
I planted some Danvers 126 carrot seeds and this one germinated with not the normal two but THREE leaves. If anyone has any idea what caused this, please let me know, but for all of you who don't know (I am assuming everyone unless I am the only guy here who hasn't seen a mutant carrot seedling before) enjoy I guess. I will try to remember to give some updates once I harvest it.

Re: Deformed/Mutant Carrot
There's a slew of plants that have this arrangement normally ("Whorled Phyllotaxy"), and a mutation that causes the cotyledons to come in triplets. I don't know if they're quite the same, because a lot of internet stuff confuses the two.
But yeah, it's normal, albeit a bit rare =) I've had sunflowers, tomato, pepper, and a few others show up this way. Sometimes it "sticks" to true leaves, and a plant that is normally spiral phyllotaxy has three buds at each node, but most of the time I've noticed it is just a weird quirk of the coyledons. Neat find. =) |
