Re: Could not resist
My vote is for Spindle palm... Have seen them in this area for several years in Big Box stores... Believe it or not, I purchased one two years ago in a "Bi-Lo" grocery store and it has actually more than tripled in size. Have not had any issues with it overwintering in my house at all... Great houseplant and goes well out on the screened in porch in summer...

Re: Could not resist
If I didn't know any better, I would have said it's a cocos nucifera var. 'malay dwarf', because of the coloration and the triangular form of the crown. However, that would have been somewhat of a miracle, because those are hard to find even around Florida.

Re: Could not resist
Most likely a Spindle Palm (Hyophorbe verschaffeltii), or a Bottle palm (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis). Id bet it is a Spindle because these are more readily available and also a lot less expensive than the Bottle Palm- Both these types look almost identical when young and hard to tell apart at this size.

Re: Could not resist
Planetrj, yes there are very hard to find, but I managed to find one here in Kansas, that has to trunks that germinated out of the same coconut, its in its 3rd year now,10ft tall, and hardier than the green dwarf malayan as I have one across from it now in the greenhouse, that fried its leaves last week, when we dipped to -1 *,I let the greenhouse temps dip down to 40* before I lighted up the propane heater, but it didn't even phase the giant white bird or a 10ft triangle palm, they look great.

Re: Could not resist
Should I sepertate the second one or wait till they get bigger?
I transplated it from a rootbound quart pot to the one in the Pic, do these palms like to be rootbound or am I ok? |

Re: Could not resist
I wouldnt separate them. They will grow quite normally as a double, and a much more interesting specimen. Anyway, I think you would do much more damage to them as their roots will be entangled and intertwined by now. Palms do not like to messed with and they could easily die being re potted and stressed out by having their roots disturbed. They like to be on the dry side and being root bound will keep them manageable as potted specimens.
