Best part was eating it, homegrown better than store bought.

I have a coconut palm I've had for 3 years now. It grows about 2 to 3 fronds a year ,but honestly I'm just glad I've kept it alive this long considering I live in Missouri .

I found a coconut with it's initial fronds in a local store tucked into the tropical oddity section. I am tempted of course to swipe it up. But, I mean, I live in OHIO of all places. Where's a greenhouse when I need one???

That is so cool! I have often thought of buying a coconut from the store and trying to get it to grow. Not sure why, I don't even like coconut. I guess for the challenge alone it would be worth it. Great picts Keith!

Coconuts can't take much cold at all, like guava. Here in Palm Bay, FL (zone 9B). a few years back they had a cold snap with mid 20's and everyone lost mangoes, guavas and coconuts as well as lots of other tropical foliage and flowers. A couple hours in the 20's will get em.

Always room for one more. |

Ya, I grow my coconut in a container and move it in the greenhouse for the winter. I've found the the yellow dwarf variety grows the best for me. It's almost taller then me now. Gives a real feeling of the tropics for sure.
