Default Chocolate orchid

Anyone growing this? Does it really smell like chocolate? Is it worth it?

When you say chocolate orchid, I'm assuming you mean Onc. 'Sharry Baby'? I think it smells like chocolate and vanilla combined. Very nice indeed!

Hiya Re: Chocolate orchid

We're growing it here in Miami. I can't smell it, but my wife says it smells a bit like chocolate.

Yes is does have a chocolaty smell.
I've seen them the last few years at the local orchid shows and plant shows, always tell the girlfriend I am going to buy one, but never seem to be willing to spend that much on a orchid (same goes for all the vandas, still have not bought a big flowering one, but have 10 small ones).
Actually ended up getting one last year from a friend who was dividing hers', the GF has it at her house.

There we a couple orchid vendors selling them at Garden Fest in Vero Beach last weekend, will probably be a couple at the Florida Tech Botanical Fest on March 01.

I noticed at the shows last year, a lot of vendors were promoting another one that smelled like coconut.

Sounds like just the thing to invite every critter in the area to check out the delishuss aroma.

I have a small orchid collection of about 16 varieties. Nothing truly tropical. Also have 4 big vines of vanilla bean orchids potted and I wish I had a few trees big enough to let them run up and naturalize. Will try 2 on the Christmas palms and see how they do.

Oncidium Sharry Baby:

Oncidium Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance' - Orchidaceae

I have this orchid in my collection - to me it has more of a vanilla scent - my wife says chocolate - whatever, it is very nice! Beware, collecting orchids is more addictive than bananas!
