cat + valuable plant = guess what?

My long-awaited shipment of carnivorous plants arrived today. I hadn't even finished unpacking them when I turned my back on one for maybe thirty seconds... and one of my cats ate it! Little brat.

It was a pitcher plant (sarracenia) and she didn't eat the roots, so both cat and plant will survive the experience, but I was still pretty darn annoyed. And then she tried to sneak around me and eat a sundew too, but I caught her and shooed her away.

I'll have to be certain to take the bananas outside immediately when they come, I think! She would no doubt try to eat them too. So far the only plant she hasn't attempted to eat is my split rock plant, apparently the "I am a rock, not a plant, don't eat me" camo is working for it. :D

Have you tried buying her her own plants to eat? Mine has her own spider plant to chomp on and it tends to keep her off the roses and whatnot.

Yup, I actually am going to start growing her catgrass. I have plans for an expedition tomorrow wherein I'll be getting dirt for my bananas (yay!) and the stuff I need to grow catgrass. (And the stuff I need to sprout sundews too, woot.) Hopefully that will help.

OK, but I'd suggest doing a temporary measure like a beet top or something for the interim while the catgrass grows; it takes about a week to get to good munching height in my experience.
