Would not know what type, but my Wife and I have thought about an elephant ear under our red wood tree. We are researching what types and sources for our area are available as we speak.

Due to the fact that the leaves are pointing downward rather than upward or horizontally, my guess is that is is a type of Colocasia. There is a variety of Colocasia, sold by Plant Delights Nursery that looks like the one in the picutre, see below link.
