As far as bringing them indoors, no the brugs die to the ground and come back to this size with no protection except the mulch I keep on the beds. As far as the papya goes, I will dig it up and trash it. It is about 8' overall and was started from seed this past early spring. My plant buddy here in town has already started enough seed for next year to grow a papya forest!!! She is digging her's up and potting it and putting it in her greenhouse to see how it will do, but I will just start with a seedling next year, again...

Thanks Randy those are some beautiful specimens i just started some Brugmansias Red trumpet their cute Little things i was wandering do you have pets and do the bother the Brug's i was reading on how toxic they are and the even when cutting or handling the foliage that you should were gloves as the sap can irritate the skin have you had any reactions to them? i located all my tropicals to a cordoned off area just in case. one of my pups (Patrick the miniature schnauzer) likes to chew on plants hes a right git about it also have you grown the red ones any pointers on their culture this is a new plant for me I'm planing on leaving min in pots as its to cold here for them in the wintertime then bringing them indoors also do they affect the plants around them for example like fennel poisons the ground around it?

Thanks for the compliments... I have never had any problems with mine and no, I do not have a red one. If you get yours going and can spare a cutting, I would love to add it to my collection. I, too, have a minature schnauzer, Molly, but she don't bother the brugs except to smell them, believe it or not. Like I said in a previous post, I do nothing special to them except the normal mulch. Best of luck with yours and please post pics of it when you can...

Your yard looks fantastic!
Your brugs are killer. They are more of a challenge here...they get huge in a single season, most years over 10 feet, but they are water hogs and in the intense heat of summer here if they don't get the water they feel entitled to they drop their lower leaves and don;t look as full as yours. Unless I keep a sprinkler on mine with a timer for twice a day watering, I can;t get that lush look.

sure randy you can have some there only 3" tall at this point so give me a couple of months maybe i can even get you some seeds that would be cheaper to mail if you want seeds how Meany would you like i think i mite have 5 or 6 laying around so far they have a 100% germination rate
iv been told that brugs and denturis spread like weeds we even have a native one here in the Mohave i have some pics of a beautiful one i found out in the desert this summer I'm going to go back and harvest some seeds don't worry kids there not endangered

Sounds good to me. But if possible, I would like to wait a bit and see if you can spare a few more than 5 or 6. They may have been 100% germination rate for you, but with my lack of experience with seeds, I don't think I would do very well with just 5 or 6. I would like to increase my chances, if you know what I mean. No rush, but when you do have some more seeds, keep me in mind...

Holy crap, Randy, what are you feeding those EE's? I thought a foot or 1 1/2 ft. leaf was good for my Black Magic and Illustris, but I now feel shamed. I also had no luck last year with leaving my Illustris out over the winter even with a large straw covering. The ones I brought inside I let go dormant and then started watering them outside in their pots in the early spring. One is doing nicely (I thought until I saw yours) in the ground and one is in the pond.

Great job on everything...especially all the elephant ears! The 'Portora' you sent me is doing well (even though it has to compete with maple roots), it even withstood Ike pretty well. The 'Yellow Splash' you sent me just never really took off and Ike did get it.

they are one of the easeast tropicals to geminat they grow like weed even a novice can get theas things to sprout but if you want fresh then all send you some after theas blome and fruit say in 6 months or so
