Hi! Cz. Rep. is the Pawpaw kingdom in Europe. They already grow a lot of very rare varieties like Halvin and Maria's Joy!

Yes it's very interesting! A way to learn how they develop.

Hi all,

Summer is in full swing and I have 10 fruits forming on my tree. The tree is now over 5' tall and looks very healthy. I have had to spay for japanese beetles but otherwise all has been good.

What do you spray your trees with to keep Japanese beetles away? I barely noticed Japanese beetles but now that the trees are getting bigger I have seen them on my trees munching the leaves down! They haven't completely destroyed my tree but one of my seedlings has been getting eaten up by them.

Thanks. Those are Shenandoah fruits. I also have a susquehanna tree but that one only flowered and didn't fruit.

In the morning, I spray diluted neem oil on my paw paw tree leaves. I do this after attacks begin to occur. I even had a few june bugs this year. The neem oil works fairly well but you have to spray every few days since it washes off with rain and moisture. I also have a bayer brand vegetable and garden insect spray that works even better. I save that for when serious killing power is needed!

Just don't spray in the middle of the day since moisture drops might burn leaves if a bright sun is shining.

That one on the left is huge!

Has it flowered? Since sunflower is self fertile (I think), it should fruit without a second plant.

Thank you for these messages and for contributing to this forum. I put an update on the first message I wrote for this group but my biggest tree has flower buds on the seedling portion and flower buds on the NC-1 graft that I did back in 2017. The tree even flowered in Early Fall and then the flower fell off - it was so cool to see though. Very excited to try cross-pollinating.

What is the spacing between these two trees? Just curious - I spaced my trees 6-7 feet from one another so they would become a hedge and pollinate each other well hopefully.

I think they are spaced 2 meters more or less...

Oh okay so it's around the same as my trees. Once I looked into it more I saw that Kentucky State University & Neal Peterson recommends 8 feet between trees. I think Michael Judd said that ideally 10 ft is even better. They can become a decent sized tree if you just let them grow without pruning and stuff. Oh well - I figured 6-7 feet for pollination and to make a privacy wall someday. I think I would try to prune them so they don't get too high in the sky. Harvesting fruit would be difficult if they get like 20+ ft tall. They say pawpaws like to be planted together anyway since they make a patch anyways but then I read that people said they shade themselves out and then won't make as much fruit or the shaded branches will eventually die back. Who knows lol. Your trees look great though! Definitely a medium-larger tree now.
