Update on an A.konjac in the woods.
Plant shown is four feet across and four feet in height.
These are hardy in my zone..
Bulb is grapefruit size and planted 6 inches below the surface.
Plant is irrigated and fed 16-16-16- granular 2x per year.
Plant is in full shade; however the plants in mostly sun show better growth and look a little bit more "aged" at this time of the year.

These plants did not emerge until early July; however the bulbs which i overwintered inside @ 30-50 Degrees emerged early May.... so dormant temperature does make a difference.

Whoooa!!

This one wants to pop...

Keeping the average basement temp of 58 degrees...... for most of the temperate bananas plants and all the other stuff>>>

This temps now fluctuates +-10 degrees depending on the external temps in the spring months.

This Aroid is in the area where the banana plants are kept for the winter.
I have sister plants out in the yard.......which will pop in June -July???

This plant is a few months too soon in the photo...I moved it outside to the garage where the temps are 10 degrees lower to slow it down.

April.....? maybe sooner.

Bulb is a market size Konjac.

So when you say market size, are you referring to the American Ebay market where they are sold for $50+ or the southeast Asia market where they are an economy food source cheaper than potatoes?

Yes ..LOL I know
The larger bulbs in the front are market size because they will bloom a couple of years before the small ones in the rear.

The small ones can be considered as "new potatoes" which in reality command a higher price in the states.

The tropical fish market is the same way.
A few more pics can be found here.

I moved all plants to a cooler environment- 20 f and delayed a few plants from prematurely emerging. But they do what they want to do......Bloom.

A. bulbifer

This year was a good year for this plant.
There was multiple shoots off the bulb.

I picked it up two years ago at the annual fall plant sale at Heathcote Gardens in Port St Lucie Florida..

Plant was from Gardino Nursery.

This is the third amorph I got from them....

This plant will grow in zone 5/6......
I was very surprised at the size of the plant.

The plants were not that vigorous last year.

Had to move a few of these today.

When small they have a small footprint, but when larger they are like a deck umbrella.

I have not tried them yet.

The foliage makes a huge statement in the garden and the flower is awesome.
