Default Alocasia 'Stingray'

I'd just like to share some pictures of my most recent addition...Alocasia 'Stingray.' I've been interested in this one for quite some time and finally broke down and bought one. Found a lot of sites trying to charge WAY too much for it. Eventually I found it on a site that sells poison dart frogs. They sell it as a plant for vivariums (basically terrariums with living animals...like frogs or lizards) despite the fact that it isn't really suited to such a home as it gets 4-6' tall eventually. Here's a link if you're interested...only $5 and about $7 for shipping...which was VERY fast (and packaging was done well also).

Alright...now on to pictures!!

Still looks a little funny after being in a small box the last few days but all the leaves/stems were in great condition (and lots of healthy roots too!). Still beautiful though!

Close-up of a leaf....you can definitely tell how it got its name! The leaves get about a foot across eventually. Mine are about 3" across right now.

Close-up of the stem. It has a really cool speckled stem...nice contrast to the leaves! (Ignore the pencil/twist-tie used to prop it till it gets situated in the new pot)

Fascinating looking plant. It does remind one of a stingray, or a (deleted). LOL

Sea World Orlando has a lot of these growing outside througout the park. They have also planted a lot of the around thier new roller coaster Manta, a Stingray themed coaster and aquarium.

I really want to get one next year.
