Default Alocasia macrorrhizos "Black stem"

Hi,

This spring I received Alocasia macrorrhizos "Black stem" with only 5-10 cm in high. A rare variety of the famous Alocasia mcrrorrhizos. Now after a half year they have been growin till 1,00m in high. A very amazing growth that I have even not seen at my Colocasia "Giant Thailand". And in my opinion its a real beauty with dark green leaves.

Nice pretty pretty. I like the shiny leaves on my allocasia BUT I love all my colocasia so much more for simple reasons. My Colocasia Black Beauty/Illustris and Mojito Elephant ears are among my favorite with their colorful leaves. Allocasia seem to stand straight Up, I like the way colocasia spread out more.

I've been testing different soil on my black-stem, maybe I just need a bigger pot! Bingo? lol
I like how they Multiply. . . Ears separate randomly just like BaNaNaS. . . and cooler-cold weather slows growth down

I not sure what it would take to get some overseas

Looks like u have a mite issue on most of those ee's. Could be wrong but thats what all the small dots on those leaves look like.

Musa777 your allos are beauties! I have the green version and its becoming one of my favorites but might have to get a black stem one too bc they are stunning!

I did sprayed everything really good with a 3 in 1 fungicide/mite/parasite at least every two weeks since forever I am keeping the soil on the dry side because of this cold weather coming my way! Yeah I know dey loookin kinda sthiy lol
Edit: Mojito got the spots it is alright perfect

Nah I dont think they look ****ty at all. I know my ee's are mite magnets and the little backyards come from nowhere just weeks after everything is sprayed, almost consider ditching them just bc they attract the mites which then end up on the other plants. I was just concerned because it looks like the spots I usually see from mites on ee's: tiny spots that almost looks like dust on the upper sides of the leaves, closely surrounding the primary leaf vein. Sounds like a good spraying regiment u got there though. Damn I hate spider mites.

I love your Alocasia Black Stem. I have also seen it listed in the U.S as Metallica. It is on my wish list lol.

Here is a photo of one of my Mojito Plants (Colocasia). The Mojito are really cool in that they make lots of babies and aren't very picky about sun/shade/etc. They like lots of water and every leaf looks different.

Hi I know that the Mojito can go dormant in cooler climates but I don't know about your zone (10), It seems like they wouldn't go dormant there. I have mine in the greenhouse right now because I don't want them to die back. I am in zone 9a but near the coast but we do get a few freezes here. I might check the bulbs on your Mojito to make sure nothing is eating it or that it doesn't have any rot on it. I have had different colocasias and alocasias decline seemingly for no reason and later found that the bulb under the soil was rotting. Fire ants here seem to like to eat the bulbs as well grrr.

I seen that happening a lot. Most of my plants are in the pot. I am planing to plant some on the ground for next summer. So they can grow big.
