Party Ripe Plantain Dessert

plátanos en almibar
(Ripe plantain dessert)

4 ripe plantains (Use very ripe plantains - more orange in color with a few black spots.)
1/2 cup of butter
2 cups sugar
1 cup of water
2/3 cup cooking wine
1/2 teaspoonful vanilla extract
2 cinnamon sticks

Peel the plantains and cut them in half and then cut each half in 4 lengthwise slices. Sautée the plantains in butter Add the remaining ingredients and cook over medium heat, covered for about 15 minutes or so. Serve hot in its own gravy.

Can save any extras in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Microwave them before serving.

That sounds delicious - I have a suspicion that one of my mystery nanas might turn out to be a plantain - so every recipe that is not for tostones is welcome! lol!

Question Re: Ripe Plantain Dessert

What is a plantain????? I always thought it was like a banana you have to cook. I'm not sure though.
