Joy blackberry recipes

I love blackberry dumplings there almost ready ! Mom always makes me them every year. I planted some thornless ones last year there loaded down this year. I did have some with thorns I got from grandma but I got tired of getting cut. Any how here is the recipie.

Ingredients for making Moms blackberry dumplings:

1 & 1 / 2 cups of all-purpose flour.

2 tablespoons backing powder.

1 / 8 teaspoon of salt.

3 tablespoons of shortening or butter.

3 / 4 cup of whole milk.

4 cups of fresh blackberries. You can use canned blackberries if you like but you will get the best flavor from your blackberry dumplings if you use fresh blackberries.
1 / 2 cup of sugar.

2 cups of water.

Directions for making blackberry dumplings:

Combine your blackberries, sugar, and water in a pot and allow to come to a boil on your stove. While waiting for this to happen measure your flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl and cut in the shorting. Stir in your milk until the mixture is consistent through and through. When your blackberries and sugar are boiling in the water, drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the hot berries. Cook uncovered for ten minutes. Then cover the pot and cook for ten more minutes or until the dumplings are fluffy.
Yum Yum !!!!!!!!! I love them

Thanks Greg; the GF "requested" that our thorned variety be replaced with thornless, which I did this spring.
I guess she finally figured out why I was always so happy to go out & brave the wilds of the back lot; the picker gets to do the "quality assurance" testing!
(polite term for hogging the berries)
This recipe might lighten my jam cooking load, too.

I'm off to Wisconsin in a few daze to visit my kids, be back towards the end of July.
After that, next time you're planning a trip this way give a yell & I'll help ya reduce the marine invertibrate population.
The GF isn't much of a seafood eater but I've been known to start biting the critters before they make it out of the water.

dang! Now look what ya started! I just downloaded Joe's menu... can't help myself, gotta go dig some conch steaks outta da freezer...
