Why was this site down for 3 days?

Did anyone else noticed that this site wouldn’t even load for 3 days in a row? Is this normal for this site to do that? Just being curios. Thanks!

I was thinking that it had been awhile since the site was down, and then it went down. It happens.

I see this site go down often and before it does it usually runs extremely slow and barely loads until that point.

I imagine this site is hosted on a single old server in someones house.

Hey! Thanks so much for the help & info .....Iowa, Valor_X & edwmax! I really appreciate it! :goteam: I was just a bit surprised to see it was offline! I didn’t think websites did that anymore! At least now I know to expect it to happen again. It’s good to know I wasn’t the only one who experienced the site being down as well!

Use google to search 'is website down'. There are couple of sites that will ping a server and report if the website is down or up & running. Just enter the website URL.

Yeah I noticed that myself the other day! I can’t believe how many ads there are now! I found an adblocker to use on my iPad! Fingers crossed! :08: If it works I’ll let you know!

Prior to it going down, I never saw ads on here. Now they are in between every post and and they pop up when trying to post! That was never here before. If Jarred needs help defraying costs, I'm sure there are a lot of us on here who would become contributing members to get rid of these things.

there've been ads before, but as soon as that started I started using adblocker. So I never see them anyway.

I wonder if Jared did put them on or if it was hacked.

Maybe someone dared to mention the forbidden term "vote fraud" and got the site banned or blocked?

(oops! too late now!)

Re: Why was this site down for 3 days?

Hi guys. I did not add any more ads here in years, but Google (the ad service) determines where they appear, using new technology of theirs they can inject them in different places. So that explains if you see ads in different locations than usual.
As for the site, yes it is not the best performing and yes it goes down at times. The issue is we have a very old software that powers the site, it's no secret that it needs updating. The problem with doing an upgrade is that it requires a massive amount of work to upgrade things while make all the parts of the site just work as they do now. For example, we have a wiki and a photo gallery and some other smaller features that are heavily integrated with the forums. Upgrading the forum would cause those aspects to stop working, or require a massive amount of work on those parts of the site as well to get it all working in a familiar way.
I just do not have the resources these days to dedicate to doing all that.
:lurk:
