What does it mean when someone gets banned?

I’m just a bit curios. What exactly does it mean when a person gets banned on this site? Thanks in advance!

Depends on how a forum is setup, a Banned member can not make any post and/or he may or may not be able to log into the forum. And his status is tagged as Banned in all his previous post so other members will not expect a reply. .... So if the member is making post to this forum he is NOT banned (he has Banned as his user Title).

Yes this answers it perfectly! I understand now. I had seen another member when I first joined and under that person’s name it said banned. I figured it meant that you couldn’t log in or even post anything. Thanks so much for your help!

Even if someone got banned, they could sneak back in by just creating another user account. Eventually, though, they would lower their guard and say / do something to clue the moderators in to them being the same as the banned person. Also, unless they use a VPN, the IP address would be identical (DEAD GIVE AWAY to it being the same person)

If someone has 'Banned' as their signature, or somewhere visible when they post, yet they are still able to post - take it as someone just trying to establish themselves as a 'notorious person, or bad-arse' to impress the other forum members.
