Is the website under attack?

I noticed the last few days the website is often unaccessible for many hours, sometimes more than half day.
Are you under some attack?

Re: Is the website under attack?

I've wondered that myself. .... Lately, the server will answer pings, but be extremely slow to feed out page request or not answer at all. The ping proves the hosting server is up & running.

However, this could be caused by a very overloaded server serving several high volume websites. ....

Or, overload intrenet connection ...

Or, a malfunctioning webserver or machine causing hangs or other problems ...

Or, planed DOS attacks causing the first two listed overloads.

Bananas.org is hosted by Rackspace.net in Texas. Obviously they host several other Domains & websites.

I was not able to connect for a few days.
And some of my messages went astray.

The backdoor is wide open!

I'm not sure who exactly runs this website (is it Gabe?) but I can help troubleshoot and bring stability back if needed.

I'm in the IT industry and have experience with websites, hosting providers, and registrars.

Feel free to PM me so I can help.

In the meantime, you can utilize a service (free) that will send you email or SMS if the website is unreachable so you know immediately:

https://uptimerobot.com/

I use this to track many of my sites and it's free!

Bananas.org is owned and run by Meadihound. He can be messaged though the Facebook page for Bananans.org. He doesn't keep a constant check on the website and relies on notice of any problem by post on Facebook.

I think the problems has a lot more to do with the hosting service and their overloading the bandwidth. A traceroute show Bananans.org is hoisted on rackspace.net and traffic is though 5 of their routers before the server. So rackspace is a large network and/or hosting service. ... And, yes DOS attacks could be a large part of the problem. But I suspect the problem is more of an overloaded network and may be a miss configured router.

We would need remote access to the Bananas.org server to test this. But the result would be a complaint to the hoisting service/network operator.

Thanks for the above link. I can use that with my servers.

I've already investigated who the host is and etc, it's not the DNS provider causing the outage, it appears to be the host itself.
The reverse lookups go to Rackspace. I've done my time in IT as well. I've been out of hte hosting game for a while but Rackspace didn't have such a hot track record back when I was doing this stuff. They were bought out at least once and during one of those transitions the quality of service took a serious hit.

The person who owns this site hasn't really done much with their FB page, last post is 2018 and any significant SEO activity was well before that.

This site is now officially a joke. It has been down, I think, 5 or 6 of the last 7 days! Maybe we should all move our discussions to the tropicalfruitforum.com site. It is reliable and ad free. This site is worthless.

Re: Is the website under attack?

I haven't been able to log to the Bananas.org for almost a week. All the 'website down' (https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/ & others) checks indicated the Bananas.org was down.

This morning when I did log on the org indicated my last visit was yesterday at 8:52pm. I didn't get a web page at that time. This appears to indicate the web server itself (hardware or software) is hanging and would only need rebooting to clear to problem. ... This would be a Rackspace (hosting service) responsibility to keep their hardware & software working.

As a guy who's had to do the remote management deal on many occasions, sometimes it's left to the owner to complain or access the Cpanel (or whatever it is they use now) to manage it directly. It could be the whole thing needs to be cleaned up and reinstalled. Reboots would solve caching related issues but this seems like much more than a reboot would solve.

Anyhow, props to whomever suggested the tropical plants site, i've registered there too.

That depends on who furnished the hardware and/or the software. And, who is responsible to see the system is monitored & running 24/7. ... Usually the hosting service provides the hardware, software, & monitoring, but could be provided by the website owner. ... The point is the current Mods do not have root access to the system for restarts or other corrections/repairs.

I've built and operated a web-server/email-server since 1996. As well as built private 56k & T1 lines to Atlanta when the only other internet access was by long distance Dial-up. So I do have some understanding as to what is happening.

Re: Is the website under attack?

Nah, I don't think so. The worst thing possible that could have happened to this website is that there are some troubles with google algorithms. The reasons can be different, though. Maybe, there were some SEO practiced used recklessly and the result is what it is. That’s why you have to always look for good SEO specialists. For example, I am working for almost five years with https://www.danielfoley.co.uk/. All this time, no f**k ups, no mistakes, just fair work with fair salary. That’s what I needed and, after all, that what I’m happy with.
