Spam!!!

Here's another spammer (note the suggestive numbers in the screen name). They appear to have just joined and sent a random, obnoxious PM:

Bananas.org - View Profile: bananalover69420

I can upload a photo of the PM this person sent me but the pipcture doesn't show up when I click on the thumbnail on this site and the url doesn't show the picture. However, here's a cut & paste:

sup bb wanna talk bananas: goteam:: goteam:: goteam:

(there were a couple of dozen of the cheerleading banana emojis within the message)

Lots of great spam threads lately and server issues too.

Re: Spam!!!

I report spam post too. One of the Admins has asked that we make a post to let other members know the thread/post was reported. Then other member wont need to report it too.

Clicking on those links will likely load backdoor trojan/virus on your computer. So don't! ... Especially when the link doesn't do anything or the visible link is not the same as the actual/hidden html link. Because of this the Admins need to be deleting or hiding those post.

I believe these spammers are part of DOS attack on the forum or the hosting service (rackspace.net). This past weekend and Monday the forum server would ping but wouldn't load a webpage.

Click on the links at your own risk!

Oh, hilarious. I thought it was going to be some tip about using spam as fertilizer. But... actual modern spam.
How do we report spam?

I just saw the triangle on the left side. Will use it when needed.

But you don't need to flag every post by the same spammer. The account will be locked and it easy for the Admin to search for ALL post by the user name for deletion. ... the Admins has to read each report he receives; so a number of reports on the same spammer just takes more time.

Re: Spam!!!

Another form of spam post are those by a new user who's post make little sense, rambling, or off-topic. These post usually say ' this was interesting ...' or 'informative ' and then give a web link or has a web link in the signature. ... This spammer usually only makes a few post (1 to 3 or 4) then he is never seen again on the forum. ... Again these links likely will load trojans & viruses to your system.

For example, Look at the post this morning by FernandoGutierrez

I think 'new members ' should be blocked from posting links in their first dozen or so post to prevent this type of spam & their website advertisement for hits.

Re: Spam!!!

That is a very good idea. I was just looking at a couple of posts from new people who say they are 'writers' (and they have appalling writing). Suspect.
I think the 'no links' rule would be good, if that can be implemented. Certainly I'll be sure to not click on anything there.
Crazy world we live in.
