Curious about Site's Image Storage and Transmission
I am an ignoramus about website design but I know something about image storage. Apparently, this site stores images as JPG files, but, when I right click on an image and select "save as", it is saved as a PNG file. Is the conversion from JPG to PNG occurring before or after transmission? If after transmission, I wasn't aware that web browsers could do that conversion. I am using Internet Explorer 11. If before, it would be a waste of bandwidth, in which case, I ask why?

They are probably saved as whatever they were when uploaded, would need to run some tests, cant remember.
Not sure why your browser tries to convert them but as far as the first and only one that I just tried on from the photo gallery, I got prompted to save the photo as a JPEG. Some people like different browsers for different reasons, maybe you should evaluate other browsers if yours is giving you a wacky experience.. :2738: |

I was looking here, http://www.bananas.org/f5/how-post-i...hreads-97.html , at your photo of a cat and a bunch of bananas. If I right click the image and select "Save Picture As" I get untitled.png which is 2062 KB. But, if I right click it and select "properties", I get http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=344 Putting that as an address in my browser, I can open or save the image as bananaharvest6.jpg which I assume is the file on your server's hard drive. The file size is 273 KB. Again, I apologize. |
