Creating Albums & Posting Photos
How to create albums & post photos
Though seemingly a bit complex, on 1st encounter, working with photos can easily be reduced to a simple & rewarding task. I have designed this guide in order to point out just how easy that task can be. Someone wants to place a photo in a post but where's the photo & how is that link established between photo & post? The 1st best step - especially for a new member - is the realization that a personal album can be a valuable tool in communicating with others. Btw, for info on Organizing Photos, see Richard's in Post-#7. Stage-1 : Creating a personal album 1. Start out on the homepage of this site. 2. Click on the word "Gallery" at the top of the page. A new page comes up. 3. In the second thick blue line down, click on "My Albums". 4. Find "Create Album" & click on that phrase. 5. Click inside the "Album Name:" box & type in a title for the album. 6. Click inside the "Album Description:" box & type in a description of the series of photos it contains (ie.: Spring 2009 Backyard Projects). 7. Click the gray "Create A New Album" button, below. Now you'll see your album's name in blue. 8. Click on the blue-colored name of the album. AA (start of a repeatable series of steps) 9. In the second thick blue line down, click on "Upload Photos" (far right). 10. Click inside the upper-most box (left of the gray "Browse" buttons). -----For a 1st effort, It's best to upload photos 1 at a time. This also makes titles & descriptions easier to manage for individual pics. 11. Either select a folder & file in the pop-up box OR type in a directory pathway (ie.: C:\FolderName\PhotoName). 12. If you selected a file from the pop-up box, press the gray "Open" button (in that box) before proceeding. 13. Look for a gray "Upload/Submit" button, below, & click that. -----Depending on the size of the photo, it may take some time to upload. If an error occurs, such as "File too large" or "Inappropriate file type", simply use the back-arrow button to get back to & to repeat from step #9. You can correct the problem at this point OR select another file to upload. 14. Once loading is accomplished, click inside the "Title:" box to type in a title for that particular photo. This appears in small type below the pic. 15. (Optional) Click inside the "Description:" box to add comments about the photo. -----This lets other users know about the photo, what it means to you, and what it might mean to them... even if just for good humour. -----This appears in large type below the photo & it's title. 16. Click on the gray "Process" button, below. -----You have now successfully installed your 1st photo in your album! To put additional photos in the album, repeat these steps starting at the blue "AA" above (step #9). Continue in this fashion till all your photos have been installed. This is not the only method available but will, at least, get a new user off to a good start. As I tend to be a tad lazy, at this point, I typically close the browser, restart the browser & then come back to the site. I hate clicking back-arrow buttons over & over. Stage-2 : Preps for placing a photo in a thread or PM Quick Method: (Thanx Saltydad) 1. Before joining in on a thread, go to your album via "Gallery" & "My Albums". Click the thumbnail for the photo you wish to use. 2. Once the image is displayed, look for the "Code for Bulletin Boards" box just beneath the photo. 3. Place the cursor over the Code & Right click. 4. Now Left click & select "Copy". -----The Code-line is now stored & ready to use. -----Go To Stage-3. The Long Way: 1. Before joining in on a thread, go to your album via "Gallery" & "My Albums". Click the thumbnail for the photo you wish to use. 2. Once the image is displayed, look for the "Code for Bulletin Boards" box just beneath the photo. -----Jot down on paper: "www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=" (without the quotation marks at each end). -----(you will need this later.) 3. Click inside that box THEN press the Cursor-Right key on the keyboard. -----You are now seeing the other end of that Code. 4. On your paper - following "php?file=" - copy the 5-digit number. -----If you wish to display the image in the size you are seeing at that time, add "&size=1" to the end. Leave no spaces between the characters anywhere in the line you've assembled. You are now ready to put that photo in a post or a PM. Since the 5-digit number never changes, you can use the constructed line to place the same photo wherever you like. For other photos, simply edit the line using their 5-digit numbers. Stage-3 : Placing a photo in a post 1. Go to the thread THEN go to the "Reply" box. 2. Start your post and (at the point at which you'd like to place the photo) stop. -----See the symbols over the top of the box in which you're typing. -----Click the yellow box symbol that seems to have a pyramid in it. 3. A box pops up with "http://" in it. Quick Method: -----If you used the Quick Method in Stage-2, you notice that "http://" is already highlighted. Simply put Cursor over it & Right-click Then select "Paste". Go to step 5. The Long Way: 4. Click to the right of "http://" and type in the line (the one you copied on paper in Stage-2). 5. Click the gray "OK" button on the pop-up box. -----Only the "http://" line will appear in the post while you're creating it. The photo, nonetheless, will appear in the final submitted post! 6. To continue typing your post, click at the end of the "http://" line. 7. If anything went wrong, Don't Panic. This is a very friendly & understanding site. Simply click the "Edit" button of your post & try again until it works... Not a Problem. Hope this helps :). Look foreward to seeing users post other methods, in this thread, as time goes by. |
Re: Creating Albums & Posting Photos
Great instructions! I have found I save some time by just doing a right click over the Bulletin Board code and then a copy. I then paste it in the popup box as you describe in stage 3, line 4. Great idea.

Re: Creating Albums & Posting Photos
Sorry for being dense...
I want to organize the random pictures that are already in my gallery into specific albums. When I follow these instructions it seems to be the same as uploading pictures into my gallery, taking me back to "my pictures" on my computer and starting over. If that's the case, then do I have to delete the random gallery pictures? Am I missing something, is there an easy and quick way to move gallery pictures into albums? Russell |
Re: Creating Albums & Posting Photos
First, click on "Photo Gallery" (next to User CP) in the blue bar. Now click on "My Albums" (next to "My Photos") in the second blue bar on the left. Create Albums with the names you want.
Second, click on "My Photos". Scroll down past your album names to the photos you want to organize. Click on one of them. Now scroll down past the photo, but before the comments. You'll see a little scroll bar with the title "Move Photo to:". Set that to the Album you want to put it in. |
Re: Creating Albums & Posting Photos
Thanks, Richard, that's EXACTLY what I was looking for!!!
Can't I make things difficult???? |
Re: Creating Albums & Posting Photos
Me too! It was a DUH moment for me. I wish we could do them as a group instead of one at a time though! :) ~JaNan

Re: Creating Albums & Posting Photos
Go to your own gallery pictures. Click on the picture you wish to move. Scroll down under the title of your picture and you will see a line that says "Edit Photo" On the line that says Change Category to the right on this line click on Members' Gallery and your folders will be listed there. Highlight the one you want and click Submit and it will move into the folder you chose. (you have to do them one at a time)
Ante you will have to make a folder first. It should be a choice close to the top of the page. You can make as many as you want I think. I have three so far, but had uploaded a lot of pictures without putting them in a folder. So now I will try to "clean up" my gallery a little bit! HA! HA! Hope this helps! ~JaNan |

Re: Creating Albums & Posting Photos
I organized my pictures into folders a while back one by one. A tool to move groups would be a great idea.

Re: Creating Albums & Posting Photos
Yes it would! I would love to see a click, drag, and drop! That would be quick and easy! :ha: ~JaNan
