Hey JP, I've been meaning to tell you a funny story about my trek across Quebec one time, as I was still learning basic French.

I was driving from Quebec Cite to Sault St. Marie on Aut. 20 and I saw a sign for downtown Centerville. A few miles up the road, I saw another sign for downtown Centerville. Seven more miles and I saw another. I was starting to get out in the country, so I thought, "Wow, this must be a big place."

After I passed about three more, I realized the sign was bilingual, like exit/sortie, and every downtown was a centerville!

I love the traffic lights y'all have in Quebec. Each color has its own shape, so even a colored blind person can tell what color the light is. I also like the blue light on the side of the salt trucks too, to let you know when they're spreading that crap so you don't pass and have the side of your car blasted off.

I was outside Bromptonville one time and got caught behind a salt truck. I saw the light so I didn't pass. After a while he turned it off and dropped the plow, but it was snowing so hard I figured I'd just stay behind him and let him lead the way, since I wasn't familiar with the area. The road started twisting and turning really bad, but I stuck with him. After 15 minutes or so, he stopped, so I did as well. Then I saw him walking back to my car so I rolled the window down. He asked me something in French that I did not understand, so I said, "Je suis Amerique, et mon Francais est tres mal."

He said, "What are doing?" I replied that I was following him since I did not know where I was going. He then said, "But Monsieur, you will never get there following me around this parking lot!"

LOL! Probably won't ever be up that way again, but you never know. I do know enough to say that I'm American and that's why my French is horrible, lest they think I'm from Toronto.

I stopped in a little town up North called Chicoutimi (sp?) in 1988, and nobody spoke English. Had a heck of a time ordering my breakfast at McDonald's. The guy at the Esso station saw my tag and said, "North Carolina, wow! Gives me a chance to practice my English." Hard to believe that was almost thirty years ago.

Plenty of nice scenery in BC and YT, but Quebec is still my favorite province. Love the people. They remind me of the hospitality that we have here in the South.
