severe weather in US south
i know im not the only one here living, having family, friends in the deep south
and having concern for them after the horrific storms they experienced the last several days.. i have paternal family in georgia and alabama and they are ok..but i cant help but have feelings for all the southerners that have suffered from these strong storms/tornados.. my thoughts and love go to all there..and to those who may have experienced some personal loss..my love and thoughts go to you.. |

Re: severe weather in US south
2011 has been perhaps the year with the worst weather as we've been pounded with about 11ft of snow over last winter which lasted until late April. Now that spring has arrived, it looks like we are getting high winds, and rain almost on a daily basis, all throughout, temperatures have stayed below average for the most part since it has been cloudy most of the time. There was actually very good weather in 2010, but that must have been the calm before the storm.
Basically this crazy weather is supposed to continue on through July as long as La Nina is in place, and it must be a pretty severe one at that. My potted plants are constantly being blown over so I've had to put bricks on top of them. Anyways I'm hoping for La Nina to end as soon as possible.

Re: severe weather in US south
We had bad storms come through TN all afternoon and evening, we were very lucky, though. No damages except for some dents in the cars from hail and a big one punched a hole through a gutter.
Luckily our greenhouse that was just repaired had no more damage! And luckily no plants were outside yet. We did have some hail almost as big as a tennis ball. One area near us had 8" of hail!!

Re: severe weather in US south
Glad you're alright 1aday. I wonder if Frank (Bigdog) is OK ...I think he's S Eastern TN.
I feel so bad for those ppl...those tornadoes were just too much, and, you don't get much warning. Where do you start with a mess like that? Where will they all live? Feeling so, so sorry.

Re: severe weather in US south
Me too, it's all so horrible. Many of the folks affected don't have a lot of money to begin with and losing their homes can be just devastating.

Re: severe weather in US south
I read about those tornadoes, that was really horrible. 250 or 300 people died. We had 14 tornadoes last month but we lucked out and nobody got hurt. Heres some picutres they took after the tornadoes in Alabama.

Re: severe weather in US south
Even here the weather has been bad, a severe windstorm came through, so much rain has dropped, I'm taking plants in and out of the garage. I see so much devestation on TV in the south and midwest areas and I feel so sorry about the people who are sufferering through all this. I know I have it bad, but they really have it worse and I hope they all get through it quickly and get their lives back together again. I really do hope that this is not going to be one of those years where we don't get a summer. I remember a year where we didn't and the gardens were just bad. And they say global warming doesn't exist
