Tog was one of the most intelligent and enlightened people I have ever had the honour of encountering. I agree with Momoese. His knowlege and light should be preserved for all to learn from.

Ah ****,....... the old bastard I know and love would want to keep things moving not set up a stagnant shrine. You want to honor Tog Tan .... document and record the life of your plants in the wiki or elsewhere. None of us do that and bananas are confusing even for the best of us.Most of all me I know, but thats what he was about.,

Thanx Bob,
You just said what I just pm'd to Lorax. BTW, I posted a whole new album, this evening, and was surprised no-one had run my photos off the front-page yet.
I remembered him, as I posted from time to time, but all this was Tog's dream just as it's ours. You're right; maybe it's time to keep those dreams alive.
Michael James
Ps. I dare anyone, with Tog's spirit, to run my photos off that page with thier own.

I did not know Tog personally but recalled many of his posts and expertise. This is infintesimal in comparison to the loss his family and friends must endure.
Hopefully a planting can be made in your or a family garden in memory. A smile will surely follow.

Cheers, Barrie.

I haven't been a member of this forum for very long, and I'm not the world's best poster, but getting in contact with Tog was on the top of my "things to do" list. I wanted his opinions and advice about many things. It was a shock to learn that I will never be able to do that.

For me Tog was the face of bananas.org itself! His comments seemed to be on every thread, and if they weren't references to him were!

I was honoured when, on my first "member introduction" post someone called me the "Tog of Japan" (presumably because I sounded knowledgeable about a botanical topic). But Tog was clearly much more than an authoritative source of knowledge - it is obvious from this thread and innumerable others that he was just an all round nice guy. I miss Tog Tan without even having had any contact with him!

Yeah, a belut (or however it's spelled) cake! If it were a birthday cake, you could have cigars instead of candles.

I am very shocked. I am sorry I did not see this until today. It is sad to lose such a very nice member as Tog. Its not going to be the same without him here. My condolences goes out to him, his daughter Stefanie and his family. Once again, very shocked here. He will surely be missed by me.

Yes, the pics really make it seem like Tog is still here with us. Thank you for them.

Also, here is one of many emails from Tog - this one in particular, I thought Beth would especially appreciate...

Quote:
Hi Sherry,

That was quick! Beth is like a God Daughter to me so it’s nice to have something for her friends.

I will run through my lil black box and see what viable sds I still have. I order alot for my project but I actually need only a couple cos they grow like crazy here. Btw, I am in Malaysia and I am in the ornamental plant business. However, I am personally a crazy plant guy and I have quite a collection of stuff. You can check out my photo gallery at the .org. As for ‘naner species/varieties you can check out the stuff I have in my profile.
I am a little confused by your add; you in England? It looks like an English add to me but the Ontario, Canada thingy is kinda confusing!
You can try Mark Hall in London for some exchange or whatever. He’s a mate of mine. Nice English gentleman. Coming to dwarf cultivars, it is sad to say there aren’t many which are true dwarves for container growing. I am experimenting with an heirloom cultivar from here which is not the typical stumpy dwarf ‘naner. It looks like a normal ‘naner scaled down in size. Very elegant and the fruits are supposed to be very good tasting. I did an intro thread on it under the Container Grown Forum.
I will get back to you once I run through my box.

Regards,

Tog

Thanks for taking the time to check in with us, Stefanie. I cannot imagine how you had time with all you must have going on this past week. You are still in our prayers.

I love the photo you posted of your Dad! He and I used to pick at each other in the forums here. When I commented about a cake with cigars for candles, I never dreamed there would be an actual photo like that. I may make that my screen saver if you don't mind. It's a great pic of your Dad.

I would like to send a card to Stefanie and Sally. But I have deleted Sallys address. Can anyone PM me her address please.

Tog sent so many PMs that it soon filled up the in box and it must have been deleted after I sent him a few bits.

Thanks
Mark

Thanks. Now I only wish i could go out with him on another trip just once more (which we planne to be next week to Rompin).
Our trip out was superb but it was just too short.
Tog took me to his favorite spot at Ulu Langat.
He showed me a very tall banana (cant remember ID but it changes colour when matured), his favorite palms, and many other plants along the way.
One the way down the hill, there is a stream which I took following picture using my cell phone (I took some for Tog using his camera)

Tog holding this beautiful plant while I took photo:

Well, I am very new to planting banana... and Tog was very kind (Tog is always very kind to share his plant and knowledge during my limited visit to his house) to give me one of his favorite dwarf banana. Will show picture next time...

I will come back to this forum more but please be patience with me as I am very very new to banana

I have just returned from the Keys on vacation to this sad news. I haven't posted much lately, but frequently read what going on.

So sad to hear of Tog's passing. I only knew him through reading his posts here, but felt his personality and knowledge shine thru.

RIP Tog Tan and thank for sharing with us.
