Seeing this makes me think its time for a cigar!..... even though the old man made fun of the mild ones I smoke...... I'll be looking up in honor when I do.....(if it starts raining I'll be flipping the bird skyward too:ha:)

I'll light one up too.

I'll be symbolic here. Don't want to smoke at all after finally quiting 12 years ago after a 3 pack a day habit. I'll hoist a brew for absent friends. Wow, this still hurts. :-(

Re: In Memoriam: Tog Tan

Tog had been trying to talk me to coming with him to the plant sales in Bangkok in December. Boy, sure wish I could take him up on the offer!

Re: In Memoriam: Tog Tan

I know. I saw a beautiful tropical euphorbia the other day, and my first thought was to send an e-mail to Tog to find out whether it was a good start for me. Damn.

I'm thinking that, in the last 6 months, how many laughs & chuckles we missed out on with Tog gone. Damned heart attacks!
Just yesterday I listened to Dr Oz say the 3 days that most heart attacks happen is Dec 25 & 26th and Jan 1st. Y'all take care!!!

Re: In Memoriam: Tog Tan

This few lines from one of his e mails I wanted to share with all of You that knew him:
"...It is quite normal for ripe sds. SO you must really thank me for actually driving around looking for ripe sds! The palm was quite tall and in the middle of a road divider. I had to park my car and then walk there. Since there is no way for me to climb or get the sds, I took off my slipper and threw it at the fruits!!! As they fell, I collected them. Not fun cos it was a very hot day..."
This memory of him walking arround bare foot throwing slippers arround allways make me laugh. WOW, how I miss that positive spirit nowdays.
I hope You are laughing on this from somewhere up there too, mate:ha:

Re: In Memoriam: Tog Tan

I think I'm a bit crazy like Tog, I guess. I once wanted to get some carob pods out of a street tree and didn't take my shoe off but decided to through my wallet at some pods. About the second time I did this my cash and credit cards went flying! Maybe I'll use my shoe next time! ;)

Re: In Memoriam: Tog Tan

The next time my park tree has pods I'll be sure to throw my shoe at em! :)

Great story! This is giving me a warm happy feeling imagining him doing that. A great anecdote of a truly amazing individual!

I'm laughing too but, since I got to know him pretty well just picture him barefoot cursing at a tree:ha:

Re: In Memoriam: Tog Tan

Saw the name on a couple posts, but never actually followed it up until now. Better late than never I suppose, but Tog Tan sounded like a marvelous persona, and I have a sense of having missed out on something very special, indeed. Walking somewhere warm, breezy and surrounded by bananas, I'm sure, many blessings Tog, you will be missed.:waving

Re: In Memoriam: Tog Tan

I've been thinking of Tog quite a bit lately and still miss this guy that became a good friend. I'll be away from the computer next week (scout camp) when it will be one year since Tog's death shocked so many of us. I remember Tog helping me through some tough times when doctor's thought my son Michael has a serious blood disorder. Maybe someday I'll make it to the plant show in Bangkok where Tog had suggested we meet up.

Miss you!

What do you say about an old pal gone a year now?

Miss you old man! I'm sure there's a lot of us here who should:

Always remember to forget
The things that made you sad.
But never forget to remember
The things that made you glad."

I do!....... Cheers!:nanadrink:

( this was in lieu of a few innapropriate jokes we would have privately shared:ha:)

Tog, time will pass, but we'll always miss you. And we'll never forget how truly amazing of a person you were.

The Forums just not the same for me now he has gone. I know he was very good mates with a lot of you on here , but he had that special gift of making you think that you were his best mate.

Miss you mate.

Re: In Memoriam: Tog Tan

Mark- Inded that was a quality he had. I (and it seems a lot of folks here) felt a close relationship with Tog even of our contact was only the org or e-mails. I also miss that terribly inquisitive mind, and I laugh at his collecting---I think maybe a bit of hoarding? LOL. Picture that pic of his hundreds of boxes of models, in addition to his plants. I see a bit of myself there! I can almost smell his cigar smoke now.

Hope you have good collecting where you are now, my friend. And I hope Stephanie is doing OK. If she's out there reading this, let us know how you're doing Steffie.
