Default (Ornata) Dusky Rose

I first bought this guy around this time last year(4/23/16). I was in Miami with my wife for the SoFlo Cake & Candy Expo (she does cake as a side thing) so we swung down to Homestead and hit up Going Bananas.

5/6/16 - I moved them into larger pots while I was still working on the island in the front yard. It was about 3-4 weeks before I got them into the ground. (left, Dusky Rose; middle Orinoco; right 2x Musella)

6/26/16 - Two weeks after getting it into the ground the flag leaf popped out.

7/2/16 - The next weekend and a few bracts are open.

7/2/16 - At the same time the first pups are peeking out from the mulch.

9/10/16 - Two months later, those first two pups are already blooming. There were two more showing their flag at this point.

A few hands showing now. I decided to bring out the yardstick to provide a clear measure of the flowering height. As you can see these flower just under three feet.

When I went out to inspect the other two flowers today I noticed this one starting to show. He's a bit shorter than the other two, emerging at 25".

Just when I thought the mat couldn't get any thicker.

I got back from vacation this weekend and the mat exploded with blooms. Including the three mentioned in the last post there are 8 buds in the mat.

I haven't seen any seed in a single banana yet, I guess the paper wasps that like to visit them aren't good pollinators.
