![]() Replanted my two year old E.glaucum from being stored (bareroot) over the winter, this spring. Well, it took off but all of a sudden appeared to simply stop!!! I looked a bit closer today and noticed the last couple of leaves had come out a bit shorter, so I immediately thought, "Wait a minute". A still closer look revealed this little guy had sent out a flower bud and is now all set to bloom!!! I really was amazed that this thing was going to bloom at such a small size, so I only hope it has time to bloom so I can enjoy it for the flower. I was really hoping this thing was going to get massive this year, but oh well... Pictures to come later...

![]() Oh, I'm actually quite patient....just enjoy giving people a hard time! Especially when they start enticing threads before pictures are available. I go by the 'if there aren't pics, it didn't happen' policy.
And yeah, that is quite small to be blooming! Looks great though!

![]() That would only work if you had another ensete flowering. ensete, musa and musella are a different genus so one genus will not be able to set seed with another different genus. It's like if a cow mated with a horse, nothing would happen except weirdness.

![]() James, respectfully that is not true...intergeneric hybrids do occur and it's worth trying. What you referred to was an interordinal hybrid (cow/horse). Cabbage and radishes have been crossed (both of different genus) to produce a radicole. The first Raphanobrassica or "rabbage", an allopolyploid cross between the radish (Raphanus sativus) and cabbage (Brassica oleracea), was obtained by the Soviet agronomist Georgi Dmitrievich Karpechenko, in 1928. Two other fertile forms of Raphanobrassica are known. Raparadish, an allopolyploid hybrid between Raphanus sativus and Brassica rapa is grown as a fodder crop. "Raphanofortii" is the allopolyploid hybrid between Brassica tournefortii and Raphanus caudatus.

![]() Looking good, Randy. I've seen a 'Maurellii' bloom in the past and they are quite cool. I'm sure this will be no exception.

![]() Brian, you have NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT!!!! After seeing some of your pics, I think you have NOTHING to be concern about!!! As far as spreading any pollen, I have no other bananas blooming at this time... Guess it would have to take care of itself.... |
